Web 2.0 Heading for the Enterprise
The Web 2.0 is a concept that arrived couple of years back and it has had a dramatic effect on the use of the Web and on collaboration and sharing of documents and data. Many see the Web 2.0 services merely as geek tools and not intended for business use, but they may be totally wrong.
The most known types of Web 2.0 services are bookmarking services, mashups (mixing maps and XML from different sources); file sharing, Wiki and productivity tools like daily planners, to-do lists and project management.
Specialized Web 2.0 services and solutions for enterprises are starting to show up, but one of the main obstacles is probably security issues. The use of AJAX as an environment for development and data exchange within the Web 2.0 services could be vulnerable, but eventually Web 2.0 services will become as secure as any other Web applications and many are probably very secure already.
We recently found JotSpot that offers personal and enterprise Wiki hosting to create and share documents such as for managing projects, building intranets and creating archives of knowledge to name a few. JotSpot can be installed behind a firewall.
